In this method, you first choose a stock or a sector to prepare your investment thesis, and through this process, you learn how to evaluate business models, interpret historical financials and financial ratios, understand operating parameters specific to that stock or industry, and finally make future projections and valuations of the company.

The easiest way to develop an understanding of financial analysis is by evaluating a stock or a sector and then making notes (a.k.a. stock pitch) on that stock. This stock pitch might also be asked by the interviewer during later stages of the interview.

Firstly, identify a stock or sector you are comfortable with.

• Try to choose a sector you are very comfortable with (based on your Work experience, relevant project, articleship experience, etc.)
• Preferably a Listed company, as reports & data will be easily available
• Try to avoid technical sectors like banking and pharma if you don’t have prior background
• You will be expected to know the ins and outs of the company, operational metrics and valuation
